Traceroute webct from my computer

Traceroute from my computer gives me 17 hops in total which is compared to the results I got from using centralops.net (20hops in total) is less. The number of hops it used before identifying the curtin.edu.au is less and the time is much faster too.

Pinging the webct with A Toolbar:-

Pinging the webct with A Toolbar is much faster than the internet tool central ops.net. It took much less time than what I expected it to be. It took 248ms with internet tools when compared to A Toolbar it only took 64ms. To my understanding why it took less time is because it went from my computer Toolbar to curtin webct straight rather than going throug my ISP provider and all other web routes before identifying the curtin webct. Centralops.net is a common internet tool which every one might use and this is my own Toolbar that is why it took less time.

Internet Tools

I used CentralOps to do the task and I find it very fast in internet communication. I selected tracerouter and typed in curtin.edu.au on the to field within few seconds it brings up a list which shows the Tracing route to curtin.edu.au [134.7.179.53]....

Question : How many ‘hops’ are there?
Answer : 20 Hops
This was an interesting bit of task. I enjoyed doing this as it did not take much of my time to figure out.

Question :what is the average time in milliseconds from the tools site to the curtin server?
Answer : 246ms

The IP Number for curtin.edu.au is 134.7.179.53.

File Transfer Protocol

What a simple exercise but I spent hours without knowing that what I downloaded at the first instance was the answer to the task. Anyway I feel proud now that I have successfully found the answer to the question.

Question:"according to the readme file, '_______ MATTERS' - what word goes in the blank?".

Answer: 'CAPITALIZATION MATTERS'

In comparison to the telnet, FTP is pretty easy task. FileZilla is a simple program to download and once downloaded it took only seconds to connect to the host recall.curtin.edu.au. Once in there I clicked on MAC folder and readme.text was one of the sub file. I downloaded and saved as a word document. This task has taught me a lesson to 'trust my own work and believe in my capabilities with computer oriented tasks'.

Task B - Blinkenlights

I liked watching the Star war telnet. I agree that it is fun compared to Task A. By watching this star war inventors of technologies figured out the need to skip a screen or go back a screen. It is not possible to rewind, so if you miss something you have to go back to the beginning. You cannot pause or stop in the middle and get back to it as we could do with the latest technology. My opinion on this is very limited to the fact it consumes a lot of time and patience which a busy mom like me will find hard.

Task A - Telnet

Oh what a drama before I could figure out how TELNET works. Anyway at last I was able to figure it out with the help of discussion board. I have successfuly printed the titles to my curtin email address. But Thanks to the latest technology which is more user friendly. I think I'll stick to the latest way of searching on the net. This is not my cup of tea.

I am an Open Uni student doing Internet Communication as one of my BUGE unit. This blogg is created for my NET11 Unit.

I have 2 more final units to complete my Bachelor of Accounting Degree. I am planning to finish the course this year and jump into CPA next year.
